La galerie Chantal Crousel présente du 14 novembre 1998 au 9 janvier 1999 un ensemble d'oeuvres récentes de l'artiste espagnol José María Sicilia . Cette exposition met en parallèle pour la première fois de grands tableaux peints à l'huile sur cire d'abeille et des travaux en céramique : des ruches et des repose-tête. Au-delà de leur immédiate et intranquille beauté, les oeuvres de José Maria Sicilia nous transposent dans des territoires frontières, où les réponses deviennent questions, où le familier se fait étrange, où la mémoire est mise en âbime.

La galerie Chantal Crousel présente du 16 janvier au 28 février 1999 un ensemble d'oeuvres de l'artiste suisse Fabrice Gygi (né en 1965 à Genève et vit à Zurich), dont c'est la première exposition personnelle à Paris.
Pourtant, rien dans l'oeuvre de Fabrice Gygi ne prend l'allure du désordre ou du foutoir ; composées dans la plus grande rigueur, presque implacables d'ordre et de froideur, ses installations ne se présentent jamais comme des coups de gueule et ne tolèrent aucun débordement de violence. Mais la contradiction n'est qu'apparente : loin de vouloir simplement exprimer sa propre colère, Gygi cherche plutôt à dénoncer l'ordre des choses, à mettre en relief le règne de l'autorité et de la discipline dans nos "dictatures démocratiques".

Trough this seventh show in the gallery since 1980 presenting five new works, Anthony Cragg go on increasing and proving one more time his creativeness.With scientific knowledge and starting from a concrete material he manipulates and transforms it, acting like a tumbler or a transformer in the way he looks for the breaking or twisting limit.

And Then, We Decide To Make The Table ...
"The Inner Circles of the Wall"
The plaster elements leaning against three walls of the gallery's first space are nothing else but the fragments of the wall that was dividing in half this room for the last six years. Gabriel Orozco's gesture consisted of taking down this wall and opening the space by introducing a table, surrounding the two appearing columns.

"Sculpture Direct"
"I want to make a just monument. The "Sculpture Direct" is the physical result of a forced confrontation between two wills. One will coming from above - power -, the other coming from beneath - the heart. One is the support, the other is the message. The two wills are condemned to exist together, thus ensuing confusion . Confusion is the actual meaning of the "Sculpture Direct". The "Sculpture Direct" has no volume. I have realized in the third dimension what I have conceived in two dimensions. It is a new work."

As a reflexion on the to-day's over-abundant proposals of self-consuming images, as far as the eye can reach, this exhibition brings together works by four young artists of different horizons, whose common caracteristic lays in the fact that each work is the attractive yet disturbing trace of an act that took place outside the "picture".
