Streetlights of Memory - A Stand by Memorial, 2010/2015
This publication comes with the work Streetlights of Memory - A Stand by Memorial, 2010/2015, presented in the frame of the exhibition of the National Pavilion of the Republic of Armenia - 56th Venice Biennal - 2015
In 2010, the Contemporary Art Fund of Geneva and the Armenian community of the city invited Melik Ohanian to create an installation in memory of the victims of the Armenian genocide of 1915. Though strongly supported by the local community, five years later the memorial hasn't yet been installed. With the support of original documents, this book traces back the history of the memorial as well as the public controversy and media coverage that accompanied the installation and the project until December 2014. The book also attempts to point out the artist's decision to show this monument that is not yet, in a different form for the exhibition of The National Pavilion of the Republic of Armenia at the 56th Venice Biennal.
