The catalog Waters’ Witness 02 is published on the occasion of Tarek Atoui's solo exhibition at Mudam Luxembourg – Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean (September 24, 2022 — March 5, 2023).
The exhibition Waters’ Witness is based on the ongoing project I/E Tarek Atoui initiated in 2015, in which the artist captures the sounds of port cities—Athens, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Beirut or Porto—by recording their harbours’ industrial, human, and ecological activities. Waters' Witness composes a soundscape that connects geographically and symbolically distinct realities and thus creates a specific space and temporality that fosters new immaterial connections to the terrain of a port city. Extending the exhibition, Waters' Witness #02 is the third volume in a series initiated by the Serralves Foundation dedicated to this project which explores the different ways in which sound can be experienced.
This publication includes an interview between Tarek Atoui and his long-time collaborator, artist and musician Eric La Casa; a visual contribution by photographer Alexandre Guirkinger; a rich iconography including views of the exhibition and an introduction by curators Sarah Beaumont and Joel Valabrega.
