Soccer. Art and Passion at MARCO, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Monterrey, Mexico, from November 16th 2012 until March 3rd 2013.
Artistic representations of the sport have existed since ancient times, when the investigations of the human physique and the study of anatomy were linked to the canons of beauty established by athletes. In the case of a youthful sport such as soccer, it is especially relevant to see how this sports activity has stimulated artists to reflect upon its implications on society and how artists have been naturally drawn to soccer as a discursive possibility and how they have developed their own languages.
Soccer. Art and Passion brings together a selection of works by modern and contemporary artists who have pondered the theme and have approached it through four distinct discourses: Ontology, Anthropology, Geometry and the Physical, and Marketing and Power.
