He Museum’s inaugural exhibition From the Mundane World, with among others the artists Mona Hatoum and Rirkrit Tiravanija, is a study of how tangible “things” develop through the nebulous nature of the “Mundane World” and the resulting issues of production, consumption, ecology, etc. Map (clear) by Mona Hatoum depicts a world map made with 20mm diameter crystal-clear glass marbles. The marbles are not fixed onto the floor. The vibration caused by the viewer’s movement can shift parts of the map and threaten to destroy it, making it vulnerable and unstable. At the same time, the floor surface becomes treacherous and precarious.
