Haegue Yang, Chromatic Spiraling Knowledge, 2024. Commissioned by TietgenSkolen, Odense, Denmark.
Chromatic Spiraling Knowledge by Haegue Yang is conceived and realized as a permanent public installation for TietgenSkolen, a new educational center in Odense, Denmark.
Suspended from the ceiling, this monumental yet delicate installation made of venetian blinds cascades down all four floors of the atrium and stretches vertically over 12 meters. The work echoes the interwoven status of human life and civilizational knowledge in the language of abstraction, namely in the shape of the contours of the DNA helix, the elementary yet microscopic imagery of life.
Haegue Yang is known for her unique use of venetian blinds in performative sculptures and immersive installations, playing with the density of overlapping colorful slats of blinds and the lightness of a suspended structure to explore ideas of permeability.
