Haegue Yang’s latest commission for Gallery’s OUTBOUND series is inspired by Singapore’s colonial past and diasporic society. The installation evokes multiple realities by assembling original sculptures with archival imagery, hologram prints and robotic voice, expressing a sense that history and the present are in flux. It thereby creates an awareness that museums are sites where objects are continually rearranged to envision alternative narratives, and provokes questions on identity, belongingness and engagement. Haegue Yang is known for her sculptures and installations that often weave disparate narratives together. Her works have been featured in numerous important international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale (2009), the Gwangju Biennale (2010), and the Taipei Biennial (2014).
