For the first time, Sammlung Goetz dedicates an extensive solo exhibition to the Palestinian-British artist Mona Hatoum, presenting sculptures, installations, videos, video documentations of earlier performances as well as photographs by the artist. Hatoum’s main interest lies in the human body and its many references to the world, its vulnerability and its subjugation by institutional pressures. The sophisticated, often paradoxical representations of this content allow the viewer to experience Hatoum’s art primarily through the senses. Her works can trigger emotions like dismay, fascination, fear and disgust – often simultaneously. In the past 30 years, Hatoum has created a complex, highly diverse oeuvre characterized by a repertoire of constantly recurring forms, structures and methods.
