On the occasion of the 17th Istanbul Biennial, Tarek Atoui presents in a new setting the Whisperers Module 7, an installation part of a larger eponym series initiated in 2021.
Through The Whisperers, Atoui continues his investigations of sound and the way it can sculpt perceptions. He explores vibrations, underwater sounds, rotation and topography, all directed at play and pedagogy. This work is seen by the artist both as the beginning and the end of the project. It was influenced by the sessions and workshops given at school with four and five year old children.
The composition focuses on listening and handling sound objects. The Whisperers Module 7 has been designed in such a way that ten to twelve people can sit around and start to listen and explore the different sounds and events that happen. A series of workshops by invited musicians are programmed around the exhibition.
