as part of May You Live In Interesting Times, the 58th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia
November 17, 2019 — 3 pm
Performers: Prune Becheaud and Adrian Smith
On Mirror Reverse, Tarek Atoui conceives a 20min piece that repeats twice and on which two performers/improvisers switch roles and instruments every cycle. The inspiration for this piece is the work Quote from the Reverse Collection by Atoui currently on view at Central Pavilion in the Giardini of La Biennale di Venezia. Prune Bécheau and Adrian Smith will improvise along audio recordings from The Reverse Collection, and will take turns playing the Hybrid Violin, an instrument made by Leo Maurel for Atoui’s project.
THE GROUND Sessions
Palazzo Grassi and Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi, Venice, Italy
November 20 and 21, 2019 — 5.30 pm and 6.30 pm
Performers: Alan Affichard, Uriel Barthélémi, Igor Porte, Tomoko Sauvage and Rosario Sorbello.
THE GROUND Sessions is a series of performances conceived by Tarek Atoui for Palazzo Grassi – Punta della Dogana that stem from THE GROUND, the artist’s composition on view also at the 58th International Art Exhibition of la Biennale di Venezia, in the Arsenale. These performances form a diptych and build on one another in the spaces of Palazzo Grassi and of the Teatrino. For each movement, Tarek Atoui uses different instruments of his own creation to compose intricate sound environments.
