Since 2012 the French artist and musician Tarek Atoui has been working on a project called WITHIN, in which he explores the possibilities for how deafness can expand the common understanding of sound based on acoustic perception in a variety of ways. Working with both deaf and hearing laypersons, as well as musicians, composers and designers, Tarek Atoui has designed instruments that place the physical, tactile and visual perception of sounds at the fore. These open sound sessions will be accomplished with the performer Thierry Madiot.
