Tarek Atoui presents The Whisperers at Luma Westbau. The artist is known for his experimental and collaborative work focused on exploring sound's multi-sensory potential in various social and spatial contexts. During the pandemic, he initiated the project The Whisperers, involving workshops with young students to explore questions related to sound and space perception, non-repetitive sounds, multi-sensory listening, and converting sound into energy.
Atoui collaborates with musicians and instrument makers from around the world to create "tools for listening" using materials such as wood, brass, water, bronze, glass, and stone. The exhibition at Luma Westbau seamlessly blends musical and non-musical elements, encouraging exploration of performance, amplification, and energy, thereby inviting visitors to interact with sound in distinctive and innovative ways.
The works are part of the Maja Hoffmann / Luma Foundation Collection.
