For his exhibition Laboratoire des monument tombés, Thomas Hirschhorn questions the past and future of monuments. He presents six mock-ups of fallen monuments that “give form” to a current issue.

"The issue of falling monuments is not new in itself, but in recent times, it has accelerated and intensified. Monuments have been destroyed, vandalised, dismantled or simply reduced to ruins by the effects of time for as long as monuments have been built. My approach to this subject has always been defined by the assertion that only a monument erected out of love can endure. My recent works, titled Model for a Monument, aim to emphasize the idea that every monument carries within itself its own demise when based on power, ideology, domination, or intimidation."(...)—Thomas Hirschhorn.

A lecture by Thomas Hirschhorn titled Présence et production will take place at the auditorium of ésam Caen/Cherbourg (Caen site), on Friday March 14, 2025 at 6:30pm. A meeting with the artist will be organized on the opening day of the exhibition, on Saturday March 15 at 5pm.
