Jeju Biennale brings together artists Allora & Calzadilla and Rirkrit Tiravanija amongst many others. The Biennale is an international art event hosted by the Jeju Province and organized by the Jeju Museum of Art(JMoA).
On the occasion, Allora & Calzadilla will present at Jeju Museum of Art, the installation Penumbra, a virtual landscape that takes the shape shifting qualities of light and shadow as its substance. As well as the installation Graft composed of a thousands of blossoms cast from an oak species native to the Caribbean. These two works allude to environmental changes that have been set in motion through the interlocking effects of colonial exploitation and climate change.
A selection of new works by Rirkrit Tiravanija created during his residency in Jeju including ceramics, two new newspaper paintings on traditional Korean scrolls, a flag, a special compost vessel and some food can be seen at Next Door to the Museum Jeju.
