Allora & Calzadilla and Willem de Rooij participate in Bloom up! The Language of Flowers, the first collaborative exhibition by the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden and the Badisches Landesmuseum.
Few motifs are as universal, adaptable, and evocative as the flower. For thousands of years, it has appeared in human societies as an ornament, attribute, and symbol. Flowers are closely tied to powerful emotions, vivid memories, and enduring imagery, shaped by their beauty, fragrance, and rich layers of meaning.
In the exhibition, contemporary artistic positions enter into dialogue with art-historical and cultural-historical objects from the collections of the Badisches Landesmuseum. Through the interplay of contemporary artworks and historical artefacts, floral motifs continually acquire new meanings: as symbols of political movements, expressions of longing and resistance, or vessels for personal memory.
Bloom up! offers fresh perspectives on the cultural, social, and personal significance of flowers, revealing how deeply art, history, and the present are intertwined.
