As part of the Qatar, Argentina and Chile 2025 Year of Culture, Rirkrit Tiravanija presents an interactive installation at MIA Park in Doha that reimagines the bakery oven as both a tool and a cultural symbol.

The artist invites visitors to experience bread ovens, created for the occasion, as sites for social interaction, emphasising connection, shared labour, and cultural identity. Inspired by Argentine artist Victor Grippo’s 1972 performance in Buenos Aires, the Doha installation features a range of regional traditional ovens including Taboun, Tandour, and Regag. Visitors are invited to gather, cook, and reflect through a series of baking programmes led by local and international chefs, incorporating types of breads from diverse cultural traditions.
