The Chapultepec Forest Cultural Project, conceived by Mexican artist, Gabriel Orozco at the invitation by Mexican President López Obrador, is currently under development by the Mexican Government through the Ministry of Culture in conjunction with the Local Government of Mexico City. The project comprises three main axes: environmental, social, and cultural. Intervention programs, whose purpose is to connect the 800 hectares of the Chapultepec Forest in central Mexico City, engage the four sections of the forest to transform the land into one of the largest spaces for cultural recreation and social integration in the world, in benefit of all the population of Mexico. It is considered as a priority project for the Mexican Government.
Given the magnitude and the multiple aspects of the project, a diverse group of specialists from various disciplines, such as biologists, architects, urban planners, engineers, historians, designers and environmentalists have been invited to form what has become the Taller Chapultepec. Framed within the difficult situation that Mexico, and the world, is enduring as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, The Chapultepec Forest Cultural Project aims to contribute toward health and social justice while stimulating the economy.
Since November 24, 2020 an exhibition at Los Pinos in Mexico City displays sketches for the concepts, examples of documents, extracts of plans and a selection of photographs and models made by the various specialists and technicians, overseen by Gabriel Orozco. In this ‘kiosk’, the population can come discover, question and comment the evolution of this ambitious and generous project, that will forever change the heart of Mexico City.
