The National Gallery of Kosovo is proud to present the Pixel-Collages by Thomas Hischhorn in a major solo presentation, including 5 large collages, a large selection of small collages and reference materials presented in a vitrine. To show these most recent works by Hirschhorn in Kosovo today, with their confrontational imagery and direct take on faking and masking media techniques, is a form of statement, similar to the arguments Hirschhorn lists in the manifestoes which accompany the Pixel-Collages, notably in “Why Is It Important - Today - to Show and Look at Images of Destroyed Human Bodies?”.
Over the last years, Hirschhorn has embarked on this deeply personal, political and socially-engaged body of work that explores the limitations and deceitfulness of imagery found throughout popular culture and the media. Employing a mix of collaging techniques, his Pixel-Collage series calls into question the legitimacy of imagery that has been altered to protect the viewer from unpleasant depictions of gruesome human pain, suffering and violence. It questions the veracity of media reportage of conflicts and the manipulation of images of proof, fact or testimony circulating on the internet.
