In 2016, a monographic exhibition was devoted for the first time to Jean-Luc Moulène at the Centre Pompidou. Invited to conceive a retrospectiv of his œuvre, the artist chose to develop a "protocols retrospectiv" taking the form of a production program, a manifesto of his researchs including about thirty new pieces. Through original works, this publication captures the richness and the clomplexity of the artist's abstract and bodily universe.
Jean-Luc Moulène searchs to "objectify" the world through various practices, forms and subjects, entrenching his reflexion in mathematics, more specifically sets theory which may be asserted as a metaphor of the social space. Thus, by drawing on 3D design technics, he explores operations such as intersection, laterality, and section maintaining a tension between the body and the object. His works interrogate common space, its form and its intersection with individual space.
Texts by Serge Lasvignes, Bernard Blistène, Sophie Duplaix, Vincent Labaume, Florence Ostende, Michel Poivert, Reza Negarestani, Philippe Vasset, Frédéric Paul, Nathalie Delbard, Mihnea Mircan; Jean-Luc Moulène's words are gathered by Sophie Duplaix.
