The cinema, designed by artist Heimo Zobernig together with architect Michael Wallraff, is characterized by a tribune-like structure that divides the original exhibition space into two complementary units. While on the one side there is a black box with cinema seating (for 110 people)and a special projection screen, on the other Zobernig’s installation forms an open white space which can be used for performances, discussions and presentations or, alternatively, as a foyer and bar. Zobernig left the technical construction elements such as stage construction, ventilation technology and acoustic elements open, thus consciously rendering the institutional framework of his intervention visible and debateable.
