Capc — Musée d'art contemporain de Bordeaux presents Quoi qu’il en soit, a unique collaboration between artist Thomas Hirschhorn and director Fanny de Chaillé (tnba—Théâtre national Bordeaux Aquitaine). Through this unprecedented project blending contemporary art and live performance, the two artists offer a collective experience spanning 60 days, centered on a ruin, the temporary occupation of the museum by the tnba school, and a play performed daily.

The project originates from a desire shared by Thomas Hirschhorn and Fanny de Chaillé to radically transform the museum experience: to occupy the institution not only with artworks but with a continuous human presence. The goal is to create a sense of community and collective thought in order, possibly, to enable something else to emerge. To never give up, no matter what.

For Capc, Thomas Hirschhorn continues the series of ruins developed in recent years. Using simple materials such as tape and cardboard, a monumental ruin dominates the museum’s main hall. For Thomas Hirschhorn, the ruins he creates, in their apparent artificiality, serve as a reminder of the precarious nature of existence—the fact that “we are merely fragments in a fractured world.”

Every day, Fanny de Chaillé brings this artificial landscape of ruins to life with the students of the tnba school and their teachers. The classes take place “on the spot,” and some are open to the public. Each day, a new play—written and directed by Fanny de Chaillé—is performed. This play builds on research into artists’ manifestos, which serve as both aesthetic and political tools. Through this lens, Fanny de Chaillé and her students explore what it means to speak out publicly as a group today, in a world where collective forms have undergone profound changes.

Quoi qu’il en soit thus transforms the nave into a space for learning and sharing, for encounters between artists, theorists, and audiences, driven by a deep faith in art and in the way art can be a driving force in life.
