American artist Glenn Ligon (born 1960) is best known for his historical paintings created from text since the late 1980s, drawing inspiration from the influential writings and speeches of 20th-century cultural figures including Jean Genet, Zora Neale Hurston, Jesse Jackson and Richard Pryor. Throughout his career, Glenn Ligon has developed an incisive exploration of American history, literature and society, through a body of work that builds critically on the legacies of modern painting and art. conceptual.
