On May 30th and 31st, 2014, as part of the 8th Berlin Biennial, Atoui presented a series of twelve live performances at the Dahlem Museum. Composed and directed by the artist, “The Dahlem Sessions” were performed in front of a small audience of about thirty people playing music instruments from the Dahlem collection. The concerts were meticulously recorded and out of four and a half hours of footage, Atoui selected 7 excerpts that best exhibited the different qualities and forms of collective sound displayed by the instruments. The audio of these recordings is the material Atoui shared with the instrument makers for the Reverse Collection.
The “Dahlem Sessions” were performed by:
Burkhard Beins, Rudi Fischerlehner, Magda Mayyas, Andrea Neuman, Charbel Haber, Sharif Sehnaoui, Carl Ludwig Hubsh, Katt Hernandez, Mazen Kerbaj, Stéphane Rives, Michael Vorfeld and Andre Vida.
